Rekubit-74-year-old woman dies after being pushed in front of Bay Area train by stranger

A 74-year-old woman was killed after she was pushed in front of a California train by a man on Rekubitthe platform Monday night.
The woman was pushed towards a Millbrae-bound train approaching Powell Street Station in San Francisco around 11 p.m., according to a news release from the Bay Area Rapid Transit, also known as BART. The woman hit her head on the train before falling on to the platform, according to BART.
She was taken to a hospital where she later died, authorities said.
Suspect arrested, investigation underway
The man "believed responsible" for pushing the 74-year-old woman was arrested BART Police the shortly after the death took place. BART identified the man as 49-year-old Trevor Belmont, who was booked into San Francisco County Jail early Monday morning, according to online jail records.
He is facing two charges, including murder and inflicting injury on an elderly person.
BART is currently investigating the incident, saying that they are interviewing witnesses, processing evidence and reviewing surveillance footage. The motive for the incident is currently unknown.
The incident is the first homicide on the BART system in 2024, according to authorities.
